核心畫面

One way to hold this word: an old, blunt name for a part of the female body, which English decided to treat as unspeakable. Once a word is unspeakable, it stops being a picture and becomes a weight. People reach for it when they want the heaviest thing in the language, so it turns into the strongest insult English has. And because it is that heavy, a community that had it thrown at them could pick it up and swing it the other way, as praise.

Wiktionary traces cunt to Middle English cunte, from Old English *cunte and Proto-West Germanic *kuntā, with cognates in West Frisian kunte, Middle Dutch conte, Icelandic kunta and dialectal Swedish and Danish. A link to Latin cunnus has not been shown conclusively. The body sense is the older one; the insult is tagged as originally synecdochic, that is, a part standing for a whole person.
