To ask the public — lots of ordinary people, often online — to do a job or think of ideas for you, usually for little or no money. A company might crowdsource a new logo, a translation, or a name for a product. It is a verb. The idea sits next to (sending work to another company), except here you send it out to “the crowd.” It is not crowdfunding: that is about collecting money, not collecting work. Companies like the cheap labour; workers and designers sometimes feel they are being asked to give their skill away.
