If something is coal-fired, it uses coal as the fuel that makes it work. A coal-fired power station burns coal to make electricity. Old trains and factory boilers were often coal-fired too. The partner words are oil-fired and gas-fired: same idea, different fuel. In the news you will hear coal-fired a lot when people talk about air and climate, because burning coal makes a lot of smoke and gas.
coal-fired 表示用煤當燃料來運作的。例如 「a coal-fired power station」，燃煤電廠就是燒煤來發電。以前的火車和工廠鍋爐也常是燃煤的。
同類的字還有 oil-fired 和 gas-fired，意思一樣，只是燃料換成油或天然氣。新聞談到空氣和氣候時常常會見到 coal-fired，因為燒煤會排放很多煙和氣體。
