    When a bird or an insect chirps, it makes short, high sounds, usually again and again.

    文法不及物動詞：後面不接受詞。

    chirp 抓的是聲音的形狀：短、細、高，而且一聲一聲重複，像麻雀的「啾啾」或蟋蟀的「唧唧」。不是所有鳥叫都能用 chirp——sing 用在整段有旋律的鳥鳴，chirp 是零碎的短音。看到這個字，可以想像清晨窗外那種一點一點、很輕快的聲音，通常還帶著有生氣的感覺。

    文法及物、不及物兩種都可以：後面可以接受詞，也可以不接。

    這個 chirp 把鳥叫的畫面借給人：聲音又高又輕快，一句話短短的，聽起來心情很好。它幾乎只出現在寫故事的時候，而且常放在引號後面代替 said——'All done!' she chirped。跟 say 比，chirp 多告訴你說話的音調和心情；跟 shout 比，它一點都不大聲，只是亮。
