Chiropody is the work of examining and treating problems with people's feet — painful nails, hard skin, infections, and injuries that make it hard to walk. It is the name of the field, not the person. The person is a chiropodist. The word is more British and a little old-fashioned now; many clinics say podiatry instead, especially in American English. It is a medical, professional word. Though actually, the pieces of the word mean hand plus foot: it once suggested treatment of hands and feet together. Today, in real use, it is about feet. Do not confuse it with chiropractic, which is treatment of the back and joints by hand.
