A chiropodist is a person trained to look at feet and treat their injuries and diseases: sore nails, hard skin, bunions, infections, problems that make walking hurt. In Britain this is the older everyday name; you still see it on clinic doors. In American English the usual word is , which is the same kind of job under a newer name. It is a professional word, not slang, but it is not as common in Taiwan English class as doctor. A chiropodist is not a beauty-shop nail worker, though some of the work (cutting nails, taking off hard skin) can look similar from the outside. And though actually, people mix this up with chiropractor, which sounds close: a chiropractor works on the back and joints, not on feet.
