A chiropractor is someone who treats physical problems using chiropractic: they press on and move the spine and joints with their hands. People visit one for back pain, neck pain, or a feeling that something is 'out'. It is a job title, a professional word. In the United States many chiropractors use the title doctor in their own field (Doctor of Chiropractic); in Britain and Taiwan the picture is different, and they are not the same as a hospital physician. Though actually, students often hear the word next to chiropodist and mix the two. A chiropodist looks after feet. A chiropractor looks after the back and joints. Both start with chiro- (hand), because both jobs grew from the idea of treating with the hands — but the work is not the same.
