人的嗓音,以及有這種嗓音的人
這是這一層最原始的住戶:人的嗓子。所有其他用法都是從「這種嗓音在哪個高度」延伸出去的。
noun · B2
A man's singing voice in the middle of the male range — lower than a tenor and higher than a bass; also a man who sings with this kind of voice.
男中音
One shelf on a ladder of sound: the middle-low level, under the tenor and over the bass. Whatever stands on that shelf can be called a baritone — a man's voice, the line of music written for it, or an instrument that plays there.
From Italian baritono, from Ancient Greek barús (heavy) plus tónos (tone) — literally a heavy tone. The old parts still point at the shelf: heavier and lower than a tenor, but not as far down as a bass.
來自義大利文 baritono,再往前是希臘文 barús(重的)加 tónos(音),字面就是「重的音」。這兩個字根正好指出它的位置:比 tenor 沉,但還沒沉到 bass 那一層。
