An assemblywoman is a woman who belongs to an assembly, the same kind of law-making group as for assemblyman — especially in some US states, where that house is called the Assembly. It is an official title. She votes on state or local laws, not usually on the laws of the whole country. Though actually, like assemblyman, this word is slowly giving way to assembly member, which does not mark gender. And again, this is not a school assembly.
