Borrowed from Spanish alpaca, from Aymara allpaqa, a language of the Andes — the word travelled into English with the animal itself.
英文的 alpaca 是從西班牙文 alpaca 借來的，而西班牙文又來自安地斯山區的艾馬拉語 allpaqa。也就是說，這個字是跟著這種動物一起從南美洲進到英文裡的，所以動物才是這個字的起點，毛和布都是後來接上去的。
