Something abnormal is very different from the usual pattern, and that difference feels strange, worrying, wrong, or even dangerous — not merely a bit special or a bit rare. Doctors and scientists use it a lot: an abnormal test result, abnormal cells, abnormal bleeding. Weather, prices, and behaviour can also be called abnormal when they sit far from what people expect. In ordinary talk, putting abnormal on a person can sound cold or , as if they were a problem to fix; unusual or different is gentler. Though actually, casual not normal often only means weird or not like me. In careful English, abnormal is stronger and more serious: something may need a second look. It is mainly an adjective.
