Wording is the exact choice of words used to say something — not the idea, but the words the idea is dressed in. Two sentences can mean almost the same thing and have very different wording: "You must pay by Friday" and "Please pay by Friday if you can" carry the same fact but a different feeling, and the difference is wording.
Wording「Wording」 is the exact choice of words指的是說一件事時所選用的確切字句 used to say something用來表達某件事—— not the idea不是那個想法本身, but而是 the words the idea is dressed in這個想法所包裝的那些字句。 Two sentences兩個句子 can mean almost the same thing意思可能幾乎一樣 and而且 have very different wording卻有非常不同的 wording(措辭): "You must pay by Friday" and "Please pay by Friday if you can"「You must pay by Friday」和「Please pay by Friday if you can」這兩句 carry the same fact帶著同樣的事實 but但是 a different feeling感覺卻不同, and而 the difference這個差異 is wording就是 wording(措辭)的問題。
It is almost always singular and uncountable, and it usually comes with 'the': the wording of a letter, the wording of a rule, the wording of a question. You talk about wording when the exact words matter — in contracts, laws, exam questions, apologies, job ads, signs.
It它 is almost always singular and uncountable幾乎都是單數不可數, and而且 it它 usually comes with 'the'通常會搭配「the」一起用: the wording of a letter像 the wording of a letter(一封信的措辭)、 the wording of a rule the wording of a rule(一條規則的措辭)、 the wording of a question the wording of a question(一個問題的措辭)。 You你 talk about wording會用到 wording 這個詞 when the exact words matter是在確切用字很重要的時候—— in contracts, laws, exam questions, apologies, job ads, signs像合約、法律、考題、道歉、徵才廣告、告示牌。
That is why the word so often appears with 'careful', 'exact', 'vague', 'change', 'check': 'the exact wording of the contract', 'we changed the wording to sound friendlier'. There is a small but important habit here: people say 'the wording' when they want to blame the words, not the person.
That is why這就是為什麼 the word這個詞 so often appears with常常會跟 'careful', 'exact', 'vague', 'change', 'check'「careful」(謹慎的)、「exact」(精確的)、「vague」(含糊的)、「change」(更改)、「check」(檢查)這些詞一起出現: 'the exact wording of the contract'像「the exact wording of the contract」(合約的確切措辭)、 'we changed the wording to sound friendlier'「we changed the wording to sound friendlier」(我們把措辭改得比較友善)。 There is a small but important habit here這裡有個小卻重要的用語習慣: people人們 say 'the wording'會說「the wording」 when they want to blame the words, not the person是想怪罪那些字句、而不是那個人的時候。
If a boss says 'I don't like the wording of this email', they are saying the message is fine but the words feel wrong — too cold, too rude, too unclear. It is a polite way to ask for a .
If a boss says如果老闆說 'I don't like the wording of this email'「I don't like the wording of this email」(我不喜歡這封信的措辭), they是在 are saying說 the message is fine這則訊息本身沒問題 but但 the words feel wrong字句給人的感覺不對—— too cold太冷淡、 too rude太不客氣、 too unclear太不清楚。 It它 is a polite way to ask for a rewrite是一種委婉要求重寫的方式。
You can also use it for the words on a thing: the wording on the sign, the wording on the invitation. Here it means simply 'what it says, word for word'.
You你 can also use it也可以用它 for the words on a thing來指東西上面的文字: the wording on the sign像 the wording on the sign(告示牌上的文字)、 the wording on the invitation the wording on the invitation(邀請卡上的文字)。 Here在這裡, it它 means simply就是單純指 'what it says, word for word'「上面寫的內容,一字不差」。
組成word + -ing. The -ing here does not make a verb form — it makes a noun meaning 'the way this was done'. Same pattern as 'building' (a thing built), 'painting' (a thing painted), 'phrasing' (the way it was phrased).
