Wheeziness is the state or quality of wheezing — that rough, whistling, tight sound in the chest or throat when breathing is difficult. It is the noun form, so it names the condition as a whole rather than one particular sound: "the wheeziness got worse at night", "cold air brings on wheeziness". Because of that it is uncountable — say some wheeziness or a lot of wheeziness, not "a wheeziness". Doctors and health writing use it as a soft, everyday way of talking about a symptom, next to coughing and shortness of breath; the sharper medical word is simply wheeze or wheezing, and in a hospital note you would more likely read "the patient has a wheeze". Wheeziness suits a patient describing themselves, or a parent describing a child's asthma. Like the adverb wheezily, it is sometimes used with a smile about machines — the wheeziness of an old engine, of an accordion, of a tired ceiling fan — meaning it sounds worn out and short of breath.

組成wheeze(喘鳴聲)→ wheezy(會發出喘鳴的)→ + -ness(名詞字尾,表示狀態或性質)。The ending -ness turns an adjective into the name of a state: kind → kindness, dark → darkness, wheezy → wheeziness. Note the spelling change: the final y becomes i before -ness.
