Wheezily describes an action done while making that rough, whistling, struggling sound in the throat or chest that comes when someone cannot breathe easily — the sound of asthma, a bad cold, heavy smoking, or an old person climbing stairs. It is an adverb, so it goes with a verb: he breathed wheezily, she laughed wheezily, the old dog snored wheezily. It is not a common word; you meet it mostly in novels and descriptive writing, where a writer wants you to hear the person. In ordinary speech people say it the long way — "He was breathing with a wheeze" or "you could hear him wheezing". Writers also stretch it beyond people: an old engine, a pipe organ, an air-conditioner or an accordion can all be described as working wheezily, meaning it sounds tired and short of breath.
