A set of instructions that takes you through something step by step, from start to finish, holding your hand the whole way. In video games it is a written (or filmed) guide telling you exactly where to go, what to pick up, and how to beat each boss — players read one when they are stuck, and some players think using one is cheating. Outside games the same word covers any step-by-step guide: a software walkthrough shows you how to use a program, and in an office a colleague might give you a walkthrough of a new system. It also has an older meaning in acting and building — a rough practice run, or an inspection where you walk through a building to check it. Also written walk-through with a ; both spellings are common. It can be a noun or, before another noun, work like an adjective: a walkthrough video.
