From wage, from Northern Old French wage 'pledge'.
來自 wage（工資）；wage 源自古法文北部 wage「抵押、擔保」。
Picture two columns on a form. On one side, the things people do that bring money in; on the other, everything they do that does not — volunteering, studying, looking after a home. Waged is the label on the first column. It says nothing about how hard the work is or how much the pay comes to; it only marks which side of the line something falls on. That is why the word almost always appears where the two sides are being compared.
可以想成一張表上有兩欄。一欄是會有錢進來的事，另一欄是不會的——當志工、唸書、照顧家裡。waged 就是貼在第一欄上的標籤。它不講工作累不累，也不講薪水多少，只標出這件事落在線的哪一邊。所以這個字幾乎只在兩邊要拿來對照的時候才出現。
