  1. 1葡萄園 (釀酒用的)。台灣說「葡萄園」時吃的、釀的都算，但英文 vineyard 專指釀酒用的那種；吃的葡萄園通常說 grape farm。

    A piece of land planted with grapevines, grown to make wine. Not a garden with a few vines by the wall — a vineyard is a farm, rows and rows of vines across a , and the point of it is wine. If the grapes are grown to eat, English usually says a grape farm or table-grape farm instead.

    The word carries a picture with it. Because vineyards appear all through the Bible and through European painting, English speakers hear something old and settled in the word: sunshine, , families who have farmed the same land for generations. So it turns up in names of places and estates far more often than a plain farm word would.

    Pronunciation is the thing to get right, and it surprises people. It is said VIN-yard — the middle e is silent, and the second half sounds like yard, not like the word yard's long relatives. Do not say "vine-yard" with a long i, even though that is exactly what the spelling suggests.

組成vine (葡萄藤) + yard (圍起來的一塊地)。中古英語 vyneȝerd，更早的古英語是 wīnġeard「酒園」— 後來前半被古法語來的 vine 取代。荷蘭語 wijngaard、德語 Weingarten 是同一個組合，字面都是「酒園」。
