Unisex describes something made for men and women alike — one design, one item, no separate version for each. It is used most about clothes, haircuts, perfume, and shops: a unisex T-shirt, a unisex salon, a unisex fragrance. It is also common on doors: a unisex toilet or unisex changing room is one that anybody can use, rather than two rooms marked men and women. The word has a slight flavour of the 1960s and 70s, when it was new and rather fashionable, and in clothing today many brands prefer "unisex" for plain practical items but say "gender-neutral" when they want to sound current and thoughtful. There is a small difference between the two that is worth hearing: "unisex" tends to mean one product that suits both, often by being simple and loose; "gender-neutral" is more about not assigning things to a gender at all. Grammatically it sits before the noun almost all the time — we say "a unisex jacket" far more readily than "this jacket is unisex", though the second is not wrong.
