The adverb of 'unconstitutional' — it tells you HOW something was done: in a way that breaks the constitution. Because it describes an action, it almost always attaches to a verb about an authority doing something: a president acts unconstitutionally, a government unconstitutionally detains someone, a committee unconstitutionally changes the rules. That is the important difference from the adjective. 'The law is unconstitutional' talks about the law itself; 'He acted unconstitutionally' talks about a person's behaviour, and it is a heavier accusation, because you are saying they knowingly went past the limits of their power. It is a formal word — you will meet it in news reports, legal writing and political argument far more often than in speech, partly because it is seven long and nobody enjoys saying it. Common partners: act, behave, detain, seize, remove, be applied.
