The word does not accuse you of cruelty; it accuses you of not giving someone the benefit of the doubt. Because of that, English speakers often use it about themselves, as a polite hedge before saying something harsh: 'This may be uncharitable, but I think she planned it.' That use is very common and worth copying. Note it is about judgement and speech, not about money — a rich person who gives nothing away is 'not generous' or 'stingy', not usually 'uncharitable'. It is a somewhat formal, educated-sounding word.
