Twin-engined describes an aircraft that has two engines. It is an adjective and it goes in front of the noun: a twin-engined plane, a twin-engined helicopter. You do not normally say "the plane is twin-engined" after the verb — it sounds odd; people say "the plane has two engines" instead.
Twin-engined describes an aircraft that has two enginestwin-engined是用來形容有兩具引擎的飛機 It is an adjective and it goes in front of the noun這是形容詞,要放在名詞前面 a twin-engined plane, a twin-engined helicopter像twin-engined plane(雙引擎飛機)、twin-engined helicopter(雙引擎直升機) You do not normally say "the plane is twin-engined" after the verb你通常不會把它放在動詞後面說「the plane is twin-engined」 it sounds odd這樣聽起來很怪 people say "the plane has two engines" instead人們會改說「the plane has two engines(這架飛機有兩具引擎)」
Why have a special word for it? Because in flying, the number of engines is a serious matter. A plane with one engine is in real trouble if that engine stops. A twin-engined plane can usually keep flying on the one that is left and land safely, so the number is part of how the aircraft is described, licensed and flown.
Why have a special word for it為什麼要有一個專門的字來講這件事? Because in flying, the number of engines is a serious matter因為在飛行這件事上,引擎數量是很嚴肅的事 A plane with one engine is in real trouble if that engine stops單引擎飛機一旦那具引擎熄火就真的麻煩大了 A twin-engined plane can usually keep flying on the one that is left and land safely雙引擎飛機通常還能靠剩下那具引擎繼續飛行、安全降落 so the number is part of how the aircraft is described, licensed and flown所以引擎數量也是這架飛機被描述、取得執照和操作方式的一部分
Pilots are trained and rated for single-engined or twin-engined aircraft separately. In news reports of a crash you will often read "a twin-engined light aircraft", because that detail tells the reader something real about the plane. The word belongs mostly to aviation writing, news reports and people interested in planes; it is not everyday conversation.

You will meet the same shape in other words: twin-engined is one of a family — single-engined, four-engined, jet-engined. British writers spell it twin-engined; American writers often write twin-engine, with no -d.
You will meet the same shape in other words你會在其他字裡看到同樣的構詞方式 twin-engined is one of a familytwin-engined就是這個家族的一員 single-engined, four-engined, jet-engined像single-engined(單引擎)、four-engined(四引擎)、jet-engined(噴射引擎) British writers spell it twin-engined英式寫法是twin-engined American writers often write twin-engine, with no -d美式常常寫twin-engine,沒有-d
Both are correct in their own place. Note also that it is used for boats and cars sometimes, but planes are where it lives.
Both are correct in their own place兩種寫法在各自的地方都是對的 Note also that it is used for boats and cars sometimes也要注意,這個字有時候也用在船和汽車上 but planes are where it lives但飛機才是它主要的家
組成twin (one of two born together; here just "two, paired") + engine + -ed. The -ed here does not mean a past action — it means "having". Compare bearded (having a beard), red-haired (having red hair). So twin-engined = having two engines.
