The process of teaching a small child to use the toilet instead of wearing () — the weeks or months of practice, accidents, and praise. It is a noun: "Toilet-training took us six months," "We're starting toilet-training next month." It can also be the -ing form of the verb: "I'm toilet-training my son." Notice who does what — the parent does the toilet-training, the child gets toilet-trained. Ordinary family and parenting language; you'll see it in baby books, on parenting websites, and hear it between tired parents. Americans commonly say 'potty-training'. Also used of pets, mainly cats.
