An adjective describing a young child who has learned to use the toilet, and so no longer needs (). It is almost always used with 'be' or 'get': "She's toilet-trained now," "He got toilet-trained at two." An adjective一個形容詞 describing用來形容 a young child一個小小孩 who has learned to use the toilet已經學會用馬桶, and so no longer needs nappies (diapers)所以不再需要尿布了。It它(這個字) is almost always used幾乎都會搭配 with 'be' or 'get''be'或'get'一起用: "She's toilet-trained now,"「She's toilet-trained now」, "He got toilet-trained at two."「He got toilet-trained at two」。Note注意 it describes a state the child has reached它描述的是小孩已經到達的一個狀態, not something happening right now而不是正在發生的事 — that's 'toilet-training'那個是'toilet-training'。
The word is normal, everyday family language, not medical or rude; parents say it to each other, doctors say it to parents, and nursery teachers ask it on forms. Americans often say 'potty-trained' instead, which sounds warmer and more ; 'toilet-trained' is the more common British form and the more neutral one.
The word這個字 is normal, everyday family language是普通的日常家庭用語, not medical or rude不是醫療用語也不粗俗; parents say it to each other父母彼此之間會這樣說, doctors say it to parents醫生也會對父母這樣說, and nursery teachers ask it on forms托兒所老師也會在表格上問這個。Americans美國人 often say 'potty-trained' instead常常改說'potty-trained', which sounds warmer and more childlike聽起來更溫馨、更像小孩子的口吻; 'toilet-trained''toilet-trained' is the more common British form是比較常見的英式說法 and the more neutral one也比較中性。
People also use it of pets, especially cats, though 'house-trained' is more usual for dogs. Used of an adult, it becomes an insult — saying someone is 'not toilet-trained' means they behave crudely.
People人們 also use it也會用這個字 of pets形容寵物, especially cats尤其是貓, though 'house-trained' is more usual for dogs不過形容狗比較常用'house-trained'。Used of an adult用在成年人身上, it它(這個字) becomes an insult就變成一種侮辱 — saying someone is 'not toilet-trained'說某人'not toilet-trained' means they behave crudely意思是他們舉止很粗魯。
組成toilet + trained. 'Train' here means to teach someone a skill by practice, the same 'train' as in training a dog or training a worker — so literally 'taught to use the toilet'.
