1. 1

So surprised that you cannot move or speak for a moment. It is much stronger than 'surprised': it is the frozen feeling you get when you hear news you never imagined — someone has died, or you have won, or a friend has told you a terrible lie. The picture inside the word is a person hit by lightning: you stand there, mouth open, nothing coming out. It is an adjective, and it almost always comes after the verb ('she was thunderstruck', 'he looked thunderstruck'), not in front of a noun — 'a thunderstruck man' sounds strange, though writers do it sometimes. The word feels a bit old-fashioned and literary; in everyday speech people say 'stunned', 'gobsmacked' (British and informal), or just 'I couldn't believe it'. Younger people may know it mainly as an AC/DC song. Note that the shock can be good or bad — either way, it stops you dead.

組成thunder(雷)+ struck(strike「打、擊中」的過去分詞)— literally 'hit by thunder'. Many languages build this idea the same way: Latin attonitus and German wie vom Donner gerührt both mean 'thunder-hit', and Chinese 如遭雷擊 does exactly the same thing.
