A Thatcherite is a person who believes in Margaret Thatcher's political ideas — free markets, low taxes, small government, selling state companies, and limiting the power of unions. The same word also works as an adjective describing those ideas: a Thatcherite policy, a Thatcherite budget, the Thatcherite wing of the party. It is mostly a British political word, and you meet it in newspapers and political talk rather than in daily conversation. Who says it matters. Politicians on the right sometimes call themselves Thatcherites with pride, as a way of saying they are serious about cutting spending. People on the left use it as a criticism, meaning someone hard-hearted about the poor. So the word does not change meaning, but its temperature changes completely depending on who is speaking. The -ite ending is the usual English way of making a follower's name from a leader: a Thatcherite follows Thatcher, a Blairite followed Tony Blair, a Reaganite followed Ronald Reagan. Keep the capital T, and note that people often say a 'true Thatcherite' or a 'died-in-the-wool Thatcherite' when they want to stress how committed the person is.
