Terminological is the adjective for **terminology** — the special set of words a subject uses. So terminological describes anything to do with those words themselves rather than with the things they name: a terminological problem, terminological confusion, terminological differences between two schools of medicine. The distinction it draws is a useful one and worth holding on to. If two scientists are having a *terminological* disagreement, they agree about the facts and are only arguing about what to call them — which is a smaller argument than it sounds, and often a way of saying "this argument is not really about anything". It is a formal, academic word; you find it in research papers, standards documents and translation work, not in speech. There is one phrase you may meet on its own: **a terminological inexactitude**, Winston Churchill's famously roundabout way of saying "a lie" when the plain word was not allowed in Parliament — now used jokingly, and always with a wink.
