The last station on a train line or the last stop on a bus route — the place where the line simply ends and the vehicle has to turn around and go back. Not just any big station: a terminus is the end of the road. Taipei Main Station is a huge station, but for a line that runs through it, it is not the terminus. This is mostly British English. In Britain, London Victoria and King's Cross are termini (that is the plural you see in formal or railway writing; 'terminuses' is also correct and easier to say). Americans usually say 'terminal' instead, and 'terminal' is also the ordinary word everywhere for the airport building you check in at. So for a bus, British speakers may say either 'bus terminus' or 'bus terminal'; for a plane you always say 'terminal'. The word feels slightly formal or old-fashioned — you meet it on signs, timetables, and in writing more than in conversation. A British person waiting for a train is far more likely to say 'this is the last stop' or 'the train terminates here'. That verb, 'terminate', is what you actually hear announced on British trains: 'This train terminates at Brighton.' Outside transport, writers sometimes use 'terminus' to mean the end point of anything — 'the terminus of a glacier', 'the natural terminus of his career'. That use is literary and rare, so read it, but don't reach for it.
