1. 1

The adverb of 'technological'. It means 'in terms of technology' or 'in a way that has to do with machines, computers, and modern methods'.

The adverb of 'technological'這個字是 'technological' 的副詞形式。It means 'in terms of technology'意思是「在科技這方面」 or 或 'in a way that has to do with machines, computers, and modern methods'或是「跟機器、電腦、現代方法有關的方式」。

It is used in two main ways.

It is used in two main ways這個字主要有兩種用法。

First, in front of an adjective, to say WHICH WAY something is true: 'technologically advanced' means advanced in its technology (maybe not advanced in other ways); 'technologically possible' means we have the machines to do it — it says nothing about whether it is a good idea, or legal, or affordable. That limiting job is the heart of the word: a speaker who says 'technologically, we can do it' is often quietly telling you that in some other way, we can't.

First第一, in front of an adjective放在形容詞前面, to say WHICH WAY something is true用來指出「是在哪個方面」成立: 'technologically advanced' means advanced in its technology (maybe not advanced in other ways)'technologically advanced' 是指在科技方面先進(不一定在其他方面也先進); 'technologically possible' means we have the machines to do it'technologically possible' 是指我們有技術可以做到—— it says nothing about whether it is a good idea, or legal, or affordable但完全沒說這是不是個好主意、合不合法、或負不負擔得起。That limiting job is the heart of the word這種「限定範圍」的功能就是這個字的核心: a speaker who says 'technologically, we can do it'一個人說 'technologically, we can do it'(技術上我們做得到), is often quietly telling you that in some other way, we can't其實常常是在暗示:換個角度來看,我們做不到。

Second, at the start of a sentence, to set the topic: 'Technologically, the country has changed a lot in twenty years.' It is a long, formal-sounding word. You meet it in news reports, business writing, and school essays much more than in daily talk.

Second第二, at the start of a sentence放在句首, to set the topic用來設定話題: 'Technologically, the country has changed a lot in twenty years.'像 'Technologically, the country has changed a lot in twenty years.'(就科技而言,這個國家二十年來變化很大)。It is a long, formal-sounding word這是個又長又正式的字。You meet it in news reports, business writing, and school essays much more than in daily talk你在新聞報導、商業文件、和學校作文裡遇到它的機會,比在日常對話裡多得多。

In conversation people usually just say 'the technology is better now' instead. Note that it does not mean 'by using technology' — for that, people say 'with technology' or name the tool.

In conversation在對話裡, people usually just say 'the technology is better now' instead人們通常就直接說 'the technology is better now'(現在的技術比較好)。Note that要注意 it does not mean 'by using technology'它不是指「用科技的方式」—— for that, people say 'with technology' or name the tool如果要表達那個意思,會說 'with technology' 或直接講出用的工具。

組成technology + -ical + -ly. 'Technology' itself is Greek tekhne (skill, craft, art) + -logia (the study or talk of something) — so at root, 'the study of how things are made'. The '-ical' turns the noun into an adjective (technological), and '-ly' turns the adjective into an adverb.
