A place on a website where people post written messages — opinions, questions, answers — which everyone can read and reply to. Messages are grouped into threads, so a conversation stays together and can go on for days or years, quite unlike a chat where everything vanishes upward. The word belongs to an earlier age of the internet, roughly the 1990s and 2000s, when big sites and newspapers each ran their own. Today most people say forum, message board, or just board; talkboard sounds dated, and you are most likely to meet it in older writing or in the name of a particular site that kept it. Learners should know it mainly for reading, and use "forum" when they write.
