    A billboard is a very large outdoor sign that tries to sell you something or tell you about a film, a drink, a candidate. It stands by a road or on the side of a building so that people in cars cannot miss it. In American English this is the ordinary word. In British English older speakers still say hoarding for the same kind of big panel, though billboard has moved into British use too. The word also works as a verb: a company can billboard a new film all over town, meaning they put it on those huge signs; people also stretch it and call someone a walking billboard if their clothes are covered in brand names. Though actually, when English speakers talk about “the Billboard charts,” they mean a famous American music magazine named after this kind of sign. That is a proper name, not a second meaning you have to learn as a new word.
