Superpower has two lives, and students meet both.
In and history, a superpower is a country so strong in military force, money, and influence that it can shape what happens all over the world — not just near its own borders. During the Cold War, the United States and the Soviet Union were the two superpowers. The word is normal in newspapers and textbooks, and it is a measurement, not a compliment. People argue about which countries count today.
In everyday talk, a superpower is a special ability like flying or invisibility — what a superhero has. From there it has become a light, friendly way to talk about a real talent: "Her superpower is remembering names." You will hear this constantly now, in job interviews, in teams, in casual conversation. It is warm and slightly playful.
There is also a verb, to superpower something, meaning to give it a great deal of power — but it is uncommon, and you can safely leave it alone.

組成super- + power. super- is Latin super, "above, over". So: power above the ordinary kind. The two meanings grew from the same simple idea — one applied to countries, one to people.
