Hit so hard by the world of the theatre that you cannot think about much else. A stagestruck person loves plays and actors, and usually dreams of standing on that stage — of BEING an actor — not just of watching one. The word carries both halves at once: the love and the dream. It is used most often about young people, and it usually says something about the person as a whole, not about one evening: a stagestruck teenager who joins every school play, a stagestruck girl who moves to New York with no money. The feeling in the word is warm but a little worried. When an adult calls a young person stagestruck, they often mean the young person is in love with the SHINE of it — the lights, the clapping, being seen — and does not yet know how much boring, badly-paid work sits under it. So it is affectionate and slightly doubting at the same time. It is possible to use it kindly and completely without doubt, though, especially about yourself: 'I was stagestruck at ten and I never got over it.' Two smaller things. It is a written word, and an older-feeling one — you meet it in books, articles about actors, and interviews far more than in daily talk, and a younger person today would more likely say 'obsessed with theatre'. And it does not usually go before the noun in a stiff way; both 'a stagestruck kid' and 'she was stagestruck' are fine. You may see it written stage-struck or stage struck; all three spellings are correct. Note that it does NOT mean frightened on stage — that is stage fright, a different thing entirely.
