Sportsmanship is the quality of behaving well in a game — playing fairly, respecting the other side and the referee, not cheating, and taking the result without making a scene. It is an uncountable noun, so you say 'good sportsmanship', not 'a sportsmanship'. Almost always you hear it with good or poor in front: 'good sportsmanship', 'poor sportsmanship'. It reaches beyond sport too — a boss who loses an argument gracefully, or a student who congratulates a classmate who beat them, can be praised for showing sportsmanship. The word carries a warm, slightly moral tone, the kind of thing written on a school certificate. Some people now prefer sportspersonship or just say fair play, because sportsmanship has man inside it, but sportsmanship is still by far the ordinary word.
