Sociological means 'to do with sociology' — the scientific study of societies and of how people behave in groups. Its first use is plain: a sociological study, a sociological journal, a sociological theory, sociological research. That simply names the field. But the word has a second, livelier use that you will meet more often, and it is the one worth learning. To look at something 'from a sociological point of view', or to give a 'sociological explanation', means you explain what happens by pointing at groups and social forces — class, family, money, custom, the pressure of other people — instead of at one person's character or choices. So if a student fails an exam, a psychological explanation might be 'she was anxious'; a sociological one might be 'her school had no library and she worked nights'. Same event, different lens. You will hear people use the word in ordinary argument this way: 'that's a sociological problem, not a personal one'. Which is a real claim, not just a fancy phrase — it moves the blame from the person to the world around them.
