You can picture it as a lens pointed at what goes on inside someone's mind — thoughts, feelings, memories, fears — and how that invisible inner world drives what they actually do. Anything to do with that inner world is 'psychological'.

From the word’s history

From Greek psykhē 'breath, soul, mind' (linked to psykhein 'to breathe'), plus -logy 'the study of'. At root it means 'to do with that invisible, thinking mind' — exactly its modern core.
