Socioeconomically is the adverb from socioeconomic. It does two jobs. Most often it sits in front of another adjective and narrows it — telling you which way you are measuring: 'socioeconomically disadvantaged families', 'a socioeconomically mixed neighbourhood', 'socioeconomically diverse schools'. Read it as 'in terms of social and money conditions'. Its other job is to modify a verb or a whole statement: 'The two districts differ socioeconomically' means they differ in that particular respect — perhaps not in language or religion, but in income, jobs and schooling. This is a heavy, technical word, at home in research papers, policy documents and the news reports that quote them, and almost never heard in conversation. Notice what it lets a writer do: it marks off one dimension of comparison and quietly sets the others aside. 'The schools are socioeconomically similar' says nothing about whether they teach well. Trained readers hear that limit; that precision is exactly why the word survives despite being seven syllables long.
