Self-satisfaction is the feeling of being too pleased with yourself and with what you have done. English uses it to show . It is not the same as being glad you worked hard. Satisfaction can be healthy; self-satisfaction has a smug smell: you are yourself, and you may have stopped listening. People hear it in a smile that is a bit too proud, or in someone who talks as if the job is already finished because they did it. Though actually, the line is soft — one listener hears quiet pride, another hears showing off. If a writer chooses this word, they usually want you to pull back a little.
