1. 1

Self-righteousness is the attitude itself: being proudly sure that your beliefs, attitudes, and morals are good and right, in a way that other people. It is the noun for what a self-righteous person is showing. We use it to name a fault, not a virtue — sermons, columns, and arguments like the word. Though actually, the line can be thin: standing up for what is right and sliding into self-righteousness can look similar from the outside; the extra piece is the pride and the looking-down. It is normally uncountable: her self-righteousness, not a self-righteousness.
