    If a speech or a broadcast is scripted, someone wrote the words down before they were spoken. The speaker is reading or remembering a prepared text, not making it up in the moment. News, ads, and many TV shows are scripted. The opposite is , or off the cuff. Though actually, people also use scripted as a quiet complaint: if an apology “feels scripted,” they mean it sounds and not from the heart. In television, a scripted series is ordinary drama or comedy, as against reality shows.
