Not written down beforehand. A script is the words an actor, presenter or politician is given in advance; unscripted means the words are being made up on the spot. You meet it about broadcasts, speeches and interviews — an unscripted moment, unscripted remarks, an unscripted answer. There is a feeling attached to it, and it is usually a warm one. Unscripted suggests real, spontaneous, human: the presenter laughed, and for one unscripted minute the show came alive. Television companies sell whole programmes this way; in the industry, "unscripted" is simply the trade name for reality shows and documentaries, as opposed to drama. But when a politician goes unscripted, reporters mean something a little different — off the prepared text, where mistakes get made. Same word, and you tell which is meant from what surrounds it. Note that unscripted does not mean unprepared. A good speaker without a script has still thought hard about what to say; they just are not reading it. And it is used both in front of a noun (an unscripted comment) and after be (the whole exchange was unscripted).
