Scottish means of Scotland or of its people: Scottish weather, Scottish history, a Scottish family, Scottish dancing. This is the ordinary modern adjective, the one you can use almost anywhere without worrying. An older cousin, Scotch, is a — same root, different shape. People still say Scotch whisky (and in the US, Scotch tape), and a Scotch egg is a real snack, but calling a person Scotch can sound dated or even a bit rude. Say Scottish for people. Scottish English is the English spoken in Scotland; that is not the same as the language, and not the same as either.

組成From Middle English Scottich, from Old English Sċyttisċ: Scot + -ish, 'of the Scots.' Dutch Schots and German schottisch are cousins. It is a doublet of Scotch and of schottische (a dance whose name is the German for 'Scottish').
