    Scots, as an adjective, is another word for Scottish. You meet it a lot in set names: Scots law (the law of Scotland, which is not English law), a Scots accent, a Scots pine. People also say the Scots for the people of the country. In everyday talk, Scottish is the safer all-purpose adjective; Scots feels a little more local and is at home in those fixed phrases. Though actually the same spelling is also the name of a Germanic language spoken in Scotland, a cousin of English — and that is not Scottish , which is a Celtic language. Three labels, one country, easy to tangle.
