If something is schematic, it shows only the main parts, in a clear, simple way — boxes, lines, labels, not a realistic picture. A schematic drawing of a radio does not look like a radio; it shows how the bits connect. As a noun, a schematic is that kind of drawing. Engineers live on schematics. Though actually, the adjective can sound a little cold when you talk about a story or a person: “a schematic plot” means too simple, like a sketch that never became a real picture. It does not mean “scheming” (making secret plans). That sour flavour belongs to scheme as a verb, not to schematic.
