Rightsizing is the name of that process: cutting jobs (and sometimes whole offices or parts of a business) so the company can say it has reached the “right” size. Same idea as the verb , but here it is a thing that happens — “the rightsizing of the factory,” “a round of rightsizing.” It is still the polite company word. The plain word is downsizing; the human words are job cuts or layoffs. Though actually, managers sometimes pack more into it than people: closing a site, selling a division. For most workers who hear it, the core is still “some of us will go.”
