A revetment is a hard skin — stone, concrete, or something like it — that builders put on a bank, a wall, or a slope so that loose earth or water cannot eat it away. You find revetments on river banks, sea walls, and the sides of roads cut through hills. Armies have used them too, to make earth walls stronger. It is a technical word. Ordinary people would more likely say a stone facing or a wall that holds the earth back. You will mostly meet it in news about floods, harbours, or building work, not in everyday chat.
