Revelations is a popular name for the last book of the New Testament, the part of the Christian Bible that tells, in strange and powerful pictures, of the end of the world, the last judgement, and a new heaven and earth. Church tradition says Saint John wrote it; many scholars think it was a different early Christian named John. Though actually, most English Bibles print the title as Revelation, without the extra s, and it is also called the Apocalypse. People still say “the Book of Revelations” very often, so you will hear both. It is a proper name, so it takes a capital R. A revelation (small r) is simply a surprising fact that comes out — and that common noun is how the book got its name: it is written as a vision that is “revealed.”
