A resonator is a part — or a whole extra piece of kit — that makes a musical instrument louder by catching the vibration and sending more of it into the air. It is not an electric plugged into a wall. It is the hollow body, a metal cone, a tube, that “sings with” the string or the voice and pushes more air. On a guitar or violin, the wooden body is doing this job. A resonator guitar, the metal-bodied kind you hear in old blues, has spinning metal cones inside on purpose so a quiet string can fill a porch. Though actually, engineers use the same word for any box or cavity that loves one pitch and rings it back; in this sense, though, it is the bit on an instrument that makes the sound carry.
組成From resonate + -or (a suffix that names a thing which does a job). Resonate goes back to Latin resonō, “to sound again.”
