You can be resentful about a job, a rule, a gift that felt like a duty, or a person who was treated better than you. It names a mood that lasts, not a one-second flash. Though actually, people can look resentful without saying a word. It is not a rude word to use in class, but it is not a kind thing to be, and calling someone resentful is a serious reading of their heart.
