Reconsideration is the name of the act of thinking about something again, to see whether you should change your mind or do something different. A judge may grant reconsideration of a ruling. A committee puts a plan under reconsideration. You write to ask for reconsideration when you want an official second look. It is a formal, slightly legal or office word. At the dinner table people say “think again” or “have another look.” The verb is reconsider; this noun is that second think, frozen as a thing you can request or refuse. Though actually, the tidy dictionary line sounds like a verb — but the word itself is a noun. You cannot say “I reconsideration.” You can say “on reconsideration” or “a reconsideration of the decision.”
