If you are receptive, you are willing to hear a new idea or someone else’s view, instead of shutting the door at once. We usually say receptive to something: receptive to change, receptive to advice. It is a polite, slightly formal word — more a teacher’s or a manager’s word than a playground one. It does not mean you already agree; it means you will give the idea a fair listen. Though actually, doctors and also use receptive in a narrower way (a female animal that is ready to mate; a body that will take a treatment). For most students, “open to new ideas” is the meaning that matters.

From Middle English receptive, from Medieval Latin receptivus, from Latin receptus 'received' + -īvus.

組成From Medieval Latin receptivus (capable of receiving), from Latin receptus (having been received), from recipiō (to receive). In English, the -ive ending makes an adjective: “tending to receive.”
